Department: Infrastructure Management – Southern Operation
Salary: R171,537 per annum (Level 04)
Location: Wolwedans Dam
Requirements:
- Grade 12 certificate or Adult Education Training (AET)
- Basic knowledge of water distribution management for all government waterworks within the area
- Basic understanding of policy implementation
- Basic knowledge of monitoring and evaluation principles
- Basic disciplinary knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety and Public Administration
- Basic understanding of supporting water utilization and water resource strategy
- Basic understanding of flood control and government legislation
General worker jobs
- Follow instructions from managers to distribute water
- Conduct routine maintenance on government waterworks canals, pipelines, and river outlets
- Open sluices to distribute water to users
- Clear canals of plants, grass, and algae, as well as waste by irrigators
- Attend to canal obstacle problems
- Conduct general routine inspections
- Remove stones and sand from water canals/pipelines/river outlets
- Keep gauge plates clean
- Ensure inlet hole to measuring box is open
- Report defects in measuring structures
- Paint a mark above the gauge plate
- Report irregularities in accordance with scheme regulations
- Keep structures and their surroundings clean
- Keep embankments in good condition and report holes.
General worker jobs
It is necessary to report any damages on the embankments and conduct minor maintenance on canals, sluices, measuring structures, and servitudes. Ensure that the sluice numbers are clearly visible and keep the grids clean while repairing minor washouts.
Keep all equipment and property safe and secure, locking the storerooms at all times. Maintain updated administration records and keep the register current.
